New Union Plus Credit Program Helps Make Debt Manageable

A faltering economy has led to an increase in the number of working families facing financial problems and increased debt. An estimated 500,000 union members sought help with a consumer credit counseling agency in the last year.

To provide union members with high quality confidential financial guidance, free consumer credit counseling services and debt management assistance, Union Privilege has created the Union Plus Credit Counseling program.

The program offers members the services of Money Management International and its family of Consumer Credit Counseling Services agencies. For more than 46 years, MMI has helped consumers nationwide by providing high quality, comprehensive credit counseling, education and debt management assistance.

The Union Plus Credit Counseling program offers members a free one-hour initial counseling session that features:

  • Assistance from certified credit counselors;
  • A complete financial review and budget analysis;
  • Advice on how to work with creditors; and
  • A written action plan with timelines.

    If members need additional assistance, a counselor will work with them to develop a debt management plan to reduce their debt liabilities. There is a 33 percent union-member-only discount off the fee to set up the plan.

    Once the plan has been set up, MMI will:

  • Negotiate with the members' creditors on their behalf;
  • Disburse members' funds to creditors on their behalf; and
  • Work with creditors to stop collection calls.

    For a free credit counseling session or help managing debt, members can call the Union Plus Credit Counseling program toll-free at 1-877-833-1745.

    Counselors are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In some areas, in-person counseling at a local credit counseling office is available.
