Workshops Open Door To Home Financing Deals

Dayton, Ohio

Retirees and active members explored how their union could help them realize the American dream of home ownership during two home financing workshops sponsored by the IUE-CWA Retired Associate Members Program and Chase mortgage.

The seminars, hosted by Dayton, Ohio Local 755, walked members and retirees through the home buying process, with extra emphasis on what's needed to apply for a mortgage whether for first-time buyers, those who are moving or those who are refinancing.

Under the Union Plus program, Chase offers union members extra benefits not available to the public, including a cap on bank fees and a safety net for workers who are disabled, laid off or suffer a financial hardship.

The safety net helps to ensure that workers do not lose their homes by making some or all of the mortgage payment for qualified individuals.

Depending on circumstances, the members do not have to pay interest or even repay the safety net payments.

In addition, Chase works with union members to ensure that they get the most affordable mortgage rate available, even if they have less-than-perfect credit.

"The Union Plus program gives members peace of mind that they are not being ripped off with extra fees and high interest rates," said IUE-CWA President Jim Clark. "The Union Plus provider is accountable to the Division and the AFL-CIO and is focused on how to give members the best deal, not how to get the highest profit.

And, should anyone suffer a setback, whether from layoffs or a natural disaster such as Hurricane Katrina, they have extra resources to help them through difficult times. Losing your home is the last thing you want to have to worry about."

All IUE-CWA members and their parents and children are eligible to participate in the mortgage program.
