No Tax on Health Benefits
December 1, 2009
Workers' health care coverage is in jeopardy.
We're fighting to make sure that health care reform legislation protects the benefits we've bargained - and improves conditions for us too. Good health reform legislation does that - and the insurance companies and big corporate interests hate it for that very reason.
The special interests in Washington are threatening to hijack the system by taxing our health care benefits. This could mean thousands of dollars a year in added costs to our health care plans. To avoid this tax, employers will fight hard to cut our benefits. Employers could even try to take away retiree coverage altogether.
The Senate proposal will tax our health insurance plans. Let's tell them no way. We need to send a strong message to oppose this tax on working families. Instead, Congress should require all employers to provide coverage as many do now. And it's time the wealthy paid their fair share.
