Region 8 Staff Rep Dies

Ionia, Mich.

Staff Representative Dennis Allen died February 23 at the age of 58.

Allen came to IUE by way of the merger with the Furniture Workers of America in 1987.

He was a member Ionia, Mich. Local 436A FW, joining that local in 1973 after being hired by Brown Corp. as a welder.

Allen loved baseball and was a coach for the Greater Ionia Youth League for many years.

He once said that winning an organizing campaign with the 1,500 workers at American Bumper and Manufacturing in 1980 was one of his proudest moments.

Allen is survived by his father, Leo, wife, Susie, six children and nine grandchildren.

"Dennis was the finest rep I ever had the privilege to work with," said Staff Representative Don Riger, who was his brother-in-law. "He will be sorely missed by his many, many friends in the labor movement. May he rest in peace."
