Update on Pre-65 GM/Delphi Medical Insurance
November 30, 2009
IUE-CWA President Jim Clark is sending a letter updating pre-65 retirees at Delphi and General Motors on their health care options, as well as other changes as a result of the IUE-CWA settlement with GM.
The letter details that pre-65 retirees have a one-time cash-out opportunity that they must elect by Dec. 31, 2009. GM has mailed information on the new health insurance program, but the company will be mailing opt-out information separately. Retirees can take the opt-out option even if they had previously selected the new GM health care package as long as they do so before the end of the year.
In addition, pre-65 retirees at Delphi only have an option to obtain health care coverage from the DSRA Benefit Trust. Meetings are scheduled with the IRS and the DSRA to explain the coverage.
We realize that these are very difficult times for our retirees, and IUE-CWA is making every effort possible to make them aware of the many options and plans that are available. Each person's health care needs are unique; therefore, we cannot recommend a particular plan, but we do want to make certain that our members have all the options that are available to them when making their decision.
